The Czech Olympic Dream

February 21, 2022

The Czech Republic has a strong sports culture but have not been able to achieve any major Olympic successes when it comes to collective sports.

The National Sport Agency (the official government body responsible for the development and financing of sports in the Czech Republic) has decided to change this and has therefore decided to support 7 Olympic Women sports on their journey to the Olympics in 2028.

Czech Hockey women have received funding to materialize one of their long term ambitions which is to leave a legacy for the next generation by making it to the Olympics.

Though money will not buy anybody an entry to the Olympics, this opportunity will help to semi-professionalize a part of the organization and make a serious go for qualification.

The idea to promote women collective sport via this programme was the brain-child of Filip Neusser, an ex-hockey goalie who last year was successfully nominated president of the Czech National Sport Agency (NSA) which has the task to promote sport and physical activity in the Czech Republic.

In the meantime the NSA has launched a number of bold changes, reinforcing the importance of sports for a physical and mental healthy society.

Czech hockey will focus on working intensively with the young generation of talented girls and women to help them fulfill their Olympic dream.
