Delhi FIH Road to London tournament (women) in numbers

The average age of the 108 players participating in the Women’s Hero FIH Road to London Olympic Qualifier in Delhi is 23.5 years old. The youngest team is Poland (just under 21), while the two oldest teams are South Africa (just under 26 years old) and Ukraine (25.5).

Ukrainian Olena FRITCHE is the oldest player at 34, with 4 players at 33 years old (2 ITA, 1 RSA, 1 UKR).

Jaspreet KAUR, from India, is the youngest player at 16 (born on December 11, 1995), with 7 players 17 years old (2 CAN, 1 IND, 3 ITA, 3 POL). Altogether, there are 22 teenagers in the competition (5 for CAN, 5 for IND, 3 for ITA, 7 for POL, 2 for UKR).

The average number of International Caps is 55. The team with the least international experience is Italy (with an average of 16 international Caps), whilst the most experienced team is South Africa (with an average of 122 International Caps), nearly double the average of the next team, India (64).

The most capped player in the competition is South African Captain Marsha MARESCIA, with 273 international appearances, followed by her teammate Pietie COETZEE (235 Caps). There are four other players with more than 150 Caps on the South African team, with Lesle-Ann GEORGE joining the club on her first match of the competition, while there is only one player having reached that milestone amongst the five other teams (Canadian Stephanie Jameson, 162 caps).

At the other end of the experience spectrum, 8 players will make their international debuts in this competition (1 CAN, 5 ITA, 2 POL).

10 players in the tournament have played in Olympic Games before, all from the South African squad. Only two have competed in more than one Olympic competition: Marsha MARESCIA (2004 and 2008) and Pietie COETZEE (2000 and 2004). 

4 players will celebrate their birthdays during the tournament: Yevheniya KERNOZ , UKR, will turn 20 on February 20, Nicolene TERBLANCHE, RSA, will turn 24 on February 22, Martyna GABARA, POL, will turn 18 on February 24 and Sushila Chanu PUKHRAMBAM, IND, will turn 20 on the final day of the competition.
