Test event in London takes shape

February 28, 2012

LONDON – The London Olympic Organizing Committee (LOCOG) today announced the launch of the official website for the upcoming test event in early May.

The Visa International Invitation Hockey Tournament may be the most important friendly tournament of the season as it is serving as the official test event for the upcoming London Olympic Games. The Invitational event will feature the men’s teams from Australia, Germany, Great Britain and India and the women’s squads from Argentina, China, Great Britain and Korea.

From May 2-6 these top teams will be the first to test out the Riverbank Arena in the Olympic Park in London. The Round Robin event will be the primary test for LOCOG and the FIH to make sure everything is ready for the 2012 Olympic Games. For the participating teams, the Round Robin tournament is a chance to test the new pitch – and naturally get a feel for what awaits them a few months down the road.

News of the website launch came with 150 days left until the start of the 2012 Games, an event that promises to be one of the biggest and brightest Olympics in the hsitory of the Summer Games. The hockey pitch is located in the Olympic Park and is already generating buzz for its blue and pink deisgn. The test event will be the first official matches played in the venue.
