Korea 6, Chile 1

Korea overcame a lethargic start, but ultimately cruised to a 6-1 win against Chile. The win set up a battle of the unbeatens on Tuesday as Ireland and Korea will face-off in a critical game in the round robin phase of the Electric Ireland FIH Road to London tournament in Dublin.

It took Korea more than 30 minutes to find the back of the net. Hyun Woo Nam scored on the glove side to wake his team up. Korea doubled its lead with 30 seconds left in the first half on a penalty corner from Nam Yong Lee.

Sung Hoon Yoon put in the critical 3-0 goal to open the second half scoring. He picked up a rebound on a penalty corner and tipped it in. Jon Bok Cha scored in the 54th minute from an odd angle to give Korea a solid four-goal pad. Moon Kweon Kang kept the team effort going for Korea as the fifth player to score. He followed up less than a minute later to give Korea a comfortable 6-0 advantage.

Chile netted a moral victory quickly after Kang’s second goal when Jan Richter scored Chile’s only goal of the game, sending up a big roar from the crowd, which was clearly enamored by the underdogs. The goal did little to help Chile’s bid to get its first win of the tournament as they fell 6-1.

The player of the game was Dae Keun Oh from Korea.
