Pitch side ponderings with Malaysia’s Muhammad Saabah

May 2, 2014
A few words from Malaysia's Man of the Match

Here is our daily 'pitch side ponderings' with Malaysia’s Muhammad Saabah speaking about Malaysia’s surprising victory against New Zealand in the first quarter-final of the Pahang Hockey Champions Challenge 1 in Kuantan.

Congrats on reaching the semi-final! What are your thoughts on this match?
We never expected to take such a big lead. When we were leading 4-1 the team moral was very high and we just kept going. We practiced the shootout very often. We lost the shootout at the Junior World Cup in India, so I’m very happy that we learned from our mistakes and won today.

What do you expect from the semi-final against Canada?
We have to play even better in the semi-final because this will be a different ball game which can go either way.

What is special about Team Malaysia?
We might not be the top seed in the tournament but our team spirit is very high and this makes the difference.
