SIN V BRU ( Pool ) 2016 Women Hockey World League Round 1 - Singapore (SIN)

Report from Singapore Hockey Federation
Singapore move closer to Round 2 qualification with 6-0 thumping of Brunei
Singapore took on a Brunei side that they had to beat in order to have a chance of securing qualification, and they did just that by scoring all their six goals in the second half to ensure set up a qualification showdown on Sunday (17 April) against Kazakhstan.
The Bruneians had little to show in attack in the first half as Singapore pushed forward from the start and pressed Brunei in their own half, forcing the visitors to throw every player into their D to deny Singapore their opening goal.
The hosts had a chance to score as early as the 4th minute but Tiffany Ong could not hit the ball pass an unguarded net at close range. Brunei's Haji Fatimah also managed to clear Singapore's shot from a penalty corner just two minutes later.
Singapore had a chance to score in the 25th minute but no one in the Singapore attack was able to shoot the loose ball past an unguarded Brunei net.
Brunei had a rare attaching chance in the 29th minute as substitute Siti Muhammad Hamdan was able to anticipate a long ball and ran into the Singapore D, but she could not hold off the challenge by Singapore's defence to score.
Singapore came out in the second half looking to break the deadlock, and they did just that a minute from the restart as Tiffany Ong was able to find space just on the edge of the D to drive the ball past Haji Fatimah.
Veteran Toh Li Min then scored a second for Singapore in the 41st minute after Brunei custodian Haji Fatimah failed to clear the ball from danger.
It only got worse for Brunei as they failed to clear the ball in their penalty corner in the 45th minute, allowing Tam Wan Ting to crossed across an unguarded goal for Chua Xinni to score Singapore's third goal in the 45th minute.
Next up was a penalty corner masterclass by Ong Yan Ting, who scored Singapore's fourth, fifth and sixth goals with precise shots in the 50th, 68th and 70th minutes of the match to take her goal tally to six in this tournament.
Brunei would get a goalscoring opportunity in Singapore's D just a minute after they conceded their second goal, but Singapore's defensive back three made sure that Brunei did not have the space to score.
The women in yellow would also get their first penalty corner of the game in the 58th minute, but they failed to make anything out of the chance as Singapore's defence were able to prevent the ball from hitting the back of the net.
Back at their end, goalkeeper Haji Fatimah was at hand to stop not one but three Singapore attack from scoring with very good saves in front of goal in 65th minute.
The match ended 6-0 to Singapore and Brunei exited the tournament having played all their six games without scoring a single goal. Singapore is still able to qualify to the next round, and their next game against Kazakhstan will determine their fate.
