Six-Star Performance for Swashbuckling Myanmar
With both teams pursuing their first win in the tournament, Myanmar emerged as the hungrier side as they clinched their first victory in swashbuckling fashion against a lethargic Vietnam side, 6-0.
Myanmar started the game aggressively with Thet Htwe getting onto the scoresheet within the first ten minutes.
The game was mostly limited to Vietnam’s defensive third with Myanmar piling on the pressure. Perhaps it was the fatigue building up over the past week, Vietnam looked lacklustre and lacked urgency in their play.
Myanmar quickly took advantage of Vietnam’s lack of interest as Ni Zar converted a 15th minute penalty corner to make it 2-0 to the nation-state formerly known as Burma.
Vietnam played with more tenacity after the break and desperately sought to even the score.
However, a lapse in transition defence following a foiled penalty corner saw Myanmar counter attack at breakneck speed. In the end, Zin Oo Myo finished off the sequence with a low drive to the left, virtually sealing Vietnam’s fate.
Myanmar added to their tally through Ni Zar, Zin Oo Myo and Wai Ko, ultimately finishing the game with a 6-0 triumph.
Despite dismal performances in the tournament from both sides, Myanmar grabbed a well-deserved consolatory victory. They will take on Brunei tomorrow to determine the 7th and 8th placing in the tournament.
